Social Action & Social Justice

Social Action

Jewish tradition teaches us that humanity must play an active role in the world. The concept of tikkun olam, repairing the world, expresses the values of volunteering and giving back in Judaism. Every action, no matter how large or small, contributes to our community.

We reach out to help "heal the world" by collecting food for local food pantries, cooking and serving dinners at Urban Housing Solutions and Nashville Launch Pad, building homes for habitat for Humanity, supporting programs at our Community Achieves school--Charlotte Park Elementary School, and providing many other services to various community programs. Join us when you can!

For more information on the Social Action Committee, please contact the Committee co-chairs:

Boulevard Bolt

A Nashville Thanksgiving Day Tradition!!!

The Boulevard Bolt, organized by volunteers, is a collaborative effort of The Temple, Immanuel Baptist Church, and St. George’s Episcopal Church. Since 1994, the Boulevard Bolt has grown from 2,500 participants to over 6,000 participants in 2019.

Today, the Boulevard Bolt ranks among the largest 5-mile races in the country. More importantly, we have donated over $1.4 million to the homeless community in Nashville.

Habitat for Humanity

Over the past several years, The Temple has partnered with local churches to build a new home for needy and deserving members of our Nashville community. Scores of Temple volunteers give up several weekends in order to make a family’s dream of owning their own home come true.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

This organization invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
