Social Action & Social Justice

Social Action

At The Temple, men and women are equal in all respects. Decency and trust are as important as any goal. We all share in leadership and responsibility. We are mindful of the community and the world around us. We reach out with our hearts and invite you to join us.

We reach out to help “heal the world” through community support activities including a High Holiday food drive to replenish local food pantries, cooking and serving at Urban Housing Solutions, our participation with Habitat for Humanity, the Nashville Diaper Bank, and many other programs in order to fulfill this commitment.

For more information, contact Michelle Trachtman at Michele244@aol.com.

Social Justice

The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC)

The RAC educates and mobilizes the American Jewish community on legislative and social concerns as an advocate in Congress on issues ranging from Israel and international religious freedom to economic justice and civil rights, to international peace and religious liberty. You can sign up for RAC e-updates and get email notification tailored to your particular RAC interests.

Ways to Support Israel at this Critical Time

The support of the Jews of America is very important for Israel at this time. In addition to deaths and injuries, over a million Israelis have been displaced by Hezbollah rocket and missile attacks. We encourage you to donate to one or more of the Israel tzedakah projects listed below. In addition, contacting elected officials is also very important. Encourage them to remain strong in their support for Israel. Speak up on behalf of Israel with your friends and neighbors. Pray for Israel’s security and for peace.

Boulevard Bolt

A Nashville Thanksgiving Day Tradition!!!

The Boulevard Bolt, organized by volunteers, is a collaborative effort of The Temple, Immanuel Baptist Church, and St. George’s Episcopal Church. Since 1994, the Boulevard Bolt has grown from 2,500 participants to over 6,000 participants in 2019.

Today, the Boulevard Bolt ranks among the largest 5-mile races in the country. More importantly, we have donated over $1.4 million to the homeless community in Nashville.

Habitat for Humanity

Over the past several years, The Temple has partnered with local churches to build a new home for needy and deserving members of our Nashville community. Scores of Temple volunteers give up several weekends in order to make a family’s dream of owning their own home come true.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

This organization invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

High Holiday Food Drive

During our High Holy Days, we make a concentrated effort to substantially increase the food inventory at the Second Harvest Food Bank.

This worthy organization provides a truck that our congregants fill to the maximum each year. This food drive has been wonderfully successful over many, many years.

Over the last several years, there has been an increase interest in making monetary donations instead of food, as the funds generated enable Second Harvest to buy in bulk allowing the donations to go even further.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to Second Harvest online, please go to  The Temple Virtual Food Drive. Your contribution will be credited to The Temple High Holiday Food Drive.
