Service Attendance

Student Shabbat Service Attendance

 

At The Temple, we celebrate becoming bar/bat mitzvah in the context of community. Our students take on the responsibility of the leadership of our congregation and their acceptance of our tradition.

It is essential, therefore, that they participate in our Shabbat services in anticipation of this milestone, both so that they know our traditions and understand our services, and also so that they become more familiar with our wider community at The Temple.

We require our students to attend at least:
4 Shabbat services as a 4th grader
5 Shabbat services as a 5th grader
6 Shabbat services as a 6th grader

Please note: while the requirement is for the student to attend these services, it is strongly encouraged that a parent or other close grownup attend these services with them. The entire family’s experience of the B'nai Mitzvah service will be considerably more meaningful if you attend services as a family!

Options:
Shabbat Evening Services – 6:00 PM on Fridays
Family Shabbat Evening Services – 6:00 PM on the 2nd Friday of the month
Shabbat Morning Services – 11:00 AM on Saturdays
(check The Temple calendar before you come - we do not have these services every week)
Shabbat Morning Bar/Bat Mitzvah Services – 11:00 AM on Saturdays
(check the calendar before you come!)

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services use a different prayerbook and different prayers and melodies so attendance at those services are a bonus, but do not count towards the requirement.

If you attend Shabbat services at another congregation, yes, it counts towards your requirement.

To get credit for attending, please use a parent’s phone, tablet or computer to scan the QR code at Rabbi Shulman’s Zoom desk at the back of the Chapel or Sanctuary.  You can also go to templenashville.org/attendance and log your service there.
